I should just duck right about now, but if I don’t whip up a hundred words, this post won’t get featured and if it’s not featured it loses the potential to piss off tens of people and I wouldn’t want that now would I? Look, law enforcement is a tough job. There’s a lot of good people with the best intentions trying to do honest work out there. There are some people who go into that line of work because they have an assortment of issues. There are some who start out good and get corrupted. And there is absolutely no doubt that there is racism that is inherent in our criminal “justice” system. I don’t have anything to add to the debate. I just really couldn’t resist the opportunity to have Obama doing an N.W.A. song.

And this concludes volume 1 of Obama Action Comics. Why here? Why now?

Why not? It’s as good a place as any to stop, think about where it can go, which new and exciting characters and storylines to add. In the meantime I’ll be putting Vol 1 together in one large PDF with a forward and notes on various strips and also try to get a small batch of them printed which are sure to be a limited edition collectors item.

Official Presidential Remarks on the Banning of dsent">
I have to watch what I say here. There are those with itchy trigger fingers banning political bloggers who criticize them, though despite my treading lightly, this post and myself could wind up following my friend Dsent down the memory hole. So first let me point out the dreadfully obvious: this comic is not a threat of violence in any way. It’s a parody of our president as if he were portrayed by Samuel L. Jackson in a Quentin Tarantino movie. It’s not the slightest bit politically correct, but I haven’t given a fuck about being politically correct since I realized that political correctness is what kept me from getting laid in the early 90’s. I was terrified of being accused of sexual harassment. But anyway…

Let’s get to the real meat and potatoes of what’s going on here. A blogger was seriously mistreated by people who don’t seem to understand the first thing about what makes political bloggers tick. First, the blogging network censors one of his posts. He was complaining about how an influx of hardcore right wing religious extremists seem to have flocked to our blogging site as of late, posting some annoying and factually challenged shit. It seemed that our host’s main issue was that he called the host out by name, but they also told him that his post was offensive and that courtesy is more important than free speech. HELLO? That kind of shit might fly with mommy bloggers (though I’ve even seen some of them be far less than courteous when somebody says something they don’t like), but political blogging is a different beast altogether. So he posts about their email to him about it and *POOF* that post is gone and he’s banned not only from his blog but he can’t even leave a comment on other blogs in the network. What the fuck kind of bullshit is that?

See, here’s the deal. Dsent’s provocative nature and passion for what he believed in may have been what made him some enemies, but that’s also what made him a whole hell of a lot more interesting to read than a lot of other blogs. You can continue following him here where he is in no danger of ever being censored again.

To the unnamed blogging network who pulled this Orwellian move, your actions leave a bad taste in the mouths of many of us in the political section. I think you were rather heavy handed and probably should have just backed the fuck off. I fully expect you to disagree with this. I don’t expect you to reinstate Dsent nor would I expect him to accept reinstatement even if you put it out there to him. But I think the right thing to do would be to allow him to leave comments on other blogs. I’ve sat by and watched your attitudes toward this stuff become more and more authoritarian in the forums and I’ve kept my mouth shut because I didn’t want to lose my blog, but I cannot keep it to myself anymore. I call bullshit. The next time you see something you don’t like, try looking deeper into it, maybe even talking to a few people, and putting the situation into context. Behind the ad dollars these blogs make for you are actual people. Don’t you ever forget that.

I know she was treated so unfairly by the evil liberal press, like being asked unfair questions about what newspapers she reads. But for a lady who kills things from helicopters, you’d think she’d have a set of you know what. So now that she no longer has a day job, what do you think she’ll be up to? She had a blast running hate rallies in stadiums all last fall. Perhaps she could go on tour again, maybe as the opening act for the Jonas Brothers. She can preach abstinence and talk about the evils of “socialism.” And after that tour is over, she’d be ripe for a VH-1 Celeb-reality show. She could live in a house full of washed up musicians and teen idols, or maybe try to date an aging hair metal guy. Because those shows are much better at portraying people than that evil evil liberal media!

Sorry it’s been a while since I’ve posted one of these things. I guess you could say the presidential honeymoon is over for me and I’m a tad less impressed with all the “change” that I voted for and less than hopeful for the future of this country. The silver lining to our gray political clouds is that the right wingnuts are all really pissed off. When those asshats are happy, I can tell that things are going down the tubes. So conversely, when they’re arming themselves to the teeth and making excuses for their more extreme members who go out and kill doctors and security guards, even if the change doesn’t seem as drastic as I’d like it to be, I know something must be going right.

Welcome to the first (that I know of) web comic version of Carnival of the Liberals! It’s my honor to host such a talented bunch of bloggers on my silly little site. There were far more great entries than we have room for in this carnival and I’d just like to say that I enjoyed reading each and every one of them, with the exception of the Make Money on Twitter entry. You know times are tough when people resort to spamming blog carnival submissions. But enough from me for now. We’ve finally got a president who can talk without making intelligent people cringe. Might as well let him take it from here.

Sense and Nonsense is definitely making sense about the former speaker and his near inhuman levels of douchebaggery, while Mad Kane wrote a song about him. And speaking of Douchebaggery, Rush Limbaugh and the phenomenon that is his rise to become supreme leader of the new Scary People Party (formerly known as the Republicans) is the topic of this post at the Camel Clutch Blog.

Greta Christina has a great post about how the ruling on California’s Prop 8 sets a bad precedent for the oppression of minorities through the ballot procedure. The Digital Cuttlefish takes that idea and runs with it, offering a ballot initiative to strip rights from left handed people using the same reasoning behind Prop 8. Step One Half continues to discuss how taking away a civil right is not serving democracy, and illustrates the post with a picture of a sweet transvestite from Transexual Transylvania. And last but not least, Feminism Friday has a review of a documentary about closeted gay politicians with voting records of anti-gay bigotry.

Johnny Pez has an interesting post about why we should all look past the armed robbery he committed. Hey, why not? Rough Fractals digs through 20th century political autobiographies to find Dick Cheney’s inspiration for all of the lying he’s built his career on.

Vis in Vox discusses the the divide between the pro and anti choice crowds under the context of Obama’s Notre Dame commencement address. Atheist Revolution demonstrates anti-atheist bigotry in action. A Revolution in Fiction puts some of the right wing [lame] arguments against the nomination of Sonia Sotomayor in the context of the French Revolution. And Florida Free Thinkers inadvertantly justify the existance of this very blog.

And that’s all, folks! Oh wait, looks like our old buddy Right Wing Blogger Guy has something to add. I’m sure it will add so much value to the discussion to hear from somebody on the other side…

I read an article about Obama and health care reform that got my blood boiling. Here’s an excerpt:

Listening to a 2003 Obama speech, it’s hard to believe he has become such an enigma. Back then, he declared himself “a proponent of a single-payer universal healthcare program” — that is, one eliminating private insurers and their overhead costs by having government finance healthcare. Obama’s position was as controversial then as it is today — which is to say, controversial among political elites, but not among the general public. ABC’s 2003 poll showed almost two-thirds of Americans desiring a single-payer system “run by the government and financed by taxpayers,” just as CBS’s 2009 poll shows roughly the same percentage today.

In that speech six years ago, Obama said the only reason single-payer proponents should tolerate delay is “because first we have to take back the White House, we have to take back the Senate, and we have to take back the House.”

So now that you’ve got the White House, the House and the Senate, WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU WAITING FOR, Mr. President?

Ladies and gentlemen, in the grand tradition of Conservative Ally and Poor Republican, we’ve got a new-ish member of the scary people joining us in the blogosphere. For a guy who tells people not to be lemmings, he sure is good at following the lunatic fringe of the right straight over the cliff of sanity. This guy has teabagged so much that it’s gone to his head. He thinks electing a democrat is the same as King George exploiting the colonies and taxing their tea without representation and that if the people don’t rise up and take it to the streets immediately that the demise of our entire society is imanent. He thinks anyone who disagrees with his brand of wingnuttery is a communist and should leave the country. He crosses a line in blogging ettiquet by editing the comments of others and then blows the opportunity to create good parody with it. Go laugh at his ridiculous postings and even more ridiculous comment threads and tell him I said hi.
